Discover the hidden treasures of Cretan mountains with our tour to Lassithi Plateau!

We begin our tour to Lassithi plateau by visiting the monastery of Panagia Kera Kardiotissa. The nuns’ monastery has a long history and it is an important monument of architecture and iconography. You will listen the legend of miraculous icon and enjoy the incredible view of the valley from this place.

Our next stop is the magnificent Monastery of Vidiani dedicated to the Spring of Life. For a long time the monastery was abandoned and was restored only in the middle of 19th century. Today it is a monks’ residence which also houses a small museum of natural history in collaboration with the University of Crete.

Afterwards, we will head to the one of the most spectacular caves of Crete Dicteon Andron or Zeus Cave. It will impress you with its large columns, stalactites and stalagmites. According to mythology, it is the birthplace of Zeus, the father of Greek gods. And as we know from the numerous findings, discovered here, it was also the place of his worship.

Driving back from the cave, we come across the village of Psychro, a traditional pottery center with its numerous workshops. Here you will watch the skilful craftsmen making the beautiful ceramics and even make one by yourself.

Next stop is Cronion Cave. According to the myth, Cronus, the father of Zeus, used to live here. It is a cave of great archaeological value. Firstly, it was used as a dwelling of ancient people. Later, it became a burying site and a place for worship, before it handed its reign over to the Dictean Cave.

We will finish this wonderful day visiting the capital of Lassithi plateau Tzermiado. Here we will have a chance to walk around the village, admire the landscape or taste the local food at the traditional tavern.
