Jeep Safari Agiofarago Matala
Discover the beautiful nature of the southern part of Crete with our jeep safari to Agiofarago gorge and Matala.
We will begin our jeep safari driving through the route of Wine. We will pass by the villages famous for their grape varieties and well-known Cretan wineries.
Our first stop is the village of Agios Thomas, located at an altitude of 760 meters and dating back to 1371 AD. Here we will visit the Roman tombs, Byzantine churches and the ruins of the Byzantine aqueduct.
Leaving the village, we will cross the Messara valley and arrive at Odigitria monastery, dating back to the 14th century. This place is a haven of peace with absolutely magnificent views. Take a walk around the monastery, visit the small agricultural museum and the monks’ shop with local products.
Afterwards, we will get back in the jeep and follow the beautiful dirty road till the entrance of Agiofarango gorge. During the walk through the gorge, we will see the caves of hermits and the chapel of Agios Antonios. And after about 30 minutes we will reach the beautiful Agiofarngo beach, surrounded by unscalable mountains. It is the paradise of southern Crete.
After swimming in the crystal clear water we will walk back and then drive to the Sivas village. Here we will stop at the central square and have a lunch in one of the local taverns.
At the end of our trip we will visit the famous village of Matala, where the hippies lived during the 70s. Enjoy free time and admire the beauties of the village, take a swim or visit the Hippies’ caves.
This trip will amaze and fill you with pictures that will stay with you for a lifetime.
